I have only ever seen the top side of a Peacock Pansy before. I was surprised to see the underside is so camouflaged and comparatively plain. Junonia is such a varied genus of beautiful butterflies.
I hope you don’t mind me making comments on your posts! It is so lovely seeing pictures of any butterflies at this time of year, and particularly the exotic ones you have photographed.
Thanks Nick! And of course I love getting comments, especially from other butterfly enthusiasts, like you. Perhaps the reason you’ve never seen the Peacock’s underwings, is because they really love to hide. They like to get very low, and deep into the bush, and then they just close up and stay still. And they are often on bushes that have leafs similar in appearance to themselves. So if you don’t see where they enter, you will have the devil of the time finding them.
And I know what you mean about this time of year. It’s been so cold, that even the Tibetans are saying it’s too cold! But then . Saturday, we had one lovely day of sunshine, and on our walk we actually saw two Asian Comma’s in 2 different parks, flying around! Amazing!
